Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao was born on March 3, 1997 in Havana, Cuba. At the age of 6, Cabello and her parents and sister moved to Miami, Florida, in the United States, for "a better life". In 2012, after auditioning for The X Factor and being eliminated, Cabello and other contestants–Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui and Ally Brooke–formed Fifth Harmony, that finished in third place on the show. The group later signed a joint deal with Syco Music and Epic Records. With Cabello, the group released the 2013 extended play Better Together and two studio albums: Reflection (2015) and 7/27 (2016). The group also released the hits "Worth It", "Work from Home", and "All in My Head (Flex)", among others.
While in Fifth Harmony, Cabello also released singles as a solo artist: "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (2015) with Shawn Mendes and "Bad Things" (2016) with Machine Gun Kelly, the latter reaching at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. In December 2016 it was announced that Cabello was leaving the group to start her career as a solo artist. Cabello's debut single, titled "Crying in the Club", was released in May 2017 and reached top 40 on the Hot 100. In August, she released the singles "Havana" and "OMG" featuring Young Thug and Quavo, respectively. "Havana" quickly became a hit worldwide and it was eventually chosen as the lead single off Cabello's debut solo album. In January 2021, Cabello released her debut solo album titled Camila. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 at the same time "Havana" reached the top on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also became the best-selling digital single of 2018 and was certified Diamond by the RIAA.
In 2019, Cabello and Shawn Mendes released the smash-hit "Señorita". The song debuted at number 2 on the Hot 100 and eventually topped the chart, it was also the third best-selling song of 2019 globally and it's one of the ten most streamed songs on Spotify. That same year, Cabello released her sophomore studio album titled Romance, featuring the singles "Shameless", "Liar" and "My Oh My". It was also announced that Cabello would star in an film adaptation of Cinderella, directed by Kay Cannon for Sony Pictures. The film was released in select theatres and digitally on Amazon Prime Video on September 3, 2021. It received mixed reviews from critics, but Cabello's performance received positive reviews, and the film was the most-watched movie musical in 2021. That same year, Cabello announced her third album Familia, and released its lead single "Don't Go Yet" in July 2021. In March 2022, Cabello released "Bam Bam", featuring Ed Sheeran, as the second single from the album. Familia was released on April 8, 2022 and it was met with positive reviews from music from critics, with NME, The Guardian and Rolling Stone all giving it 4 stars out of 5, and describing it as her best album.
