Technology & Characteristics
A compact and lightly-armored vehicle, the Jeep was specifically developed by Zeon army for military applications and operation in forward areas. Its design was reminiscent to the military LUVs in the pre-UC era, with a tarpaulin covering the open-loading area in the rear, and was equipped with a towing winch in the front section, plus a spare tire in its rear.[3] A large Zeon insignia was often painted on top of the tarpaulin cover or on top of the bonnet to serve as a friendly air defense identification.[4] Localized versions feature variations in Jeep's chassis: the Southeast Asian version had an opened top and without side doors,[1] whereas the Eastern European version had the aforementioned features fully-integrated.[2] The Jeep could be utilized for many diverse roles, from to carry troops, officers, supplies, to evacuating wounded soldiers and patrolling frontlines. Designed exclusively for transport purpose, the Jeep is not armed with any weapons.
History
The Jeep was produced in large numbers and they are deployed by the Zeon armed forces as a multi-purpose light vehicle across the Earth during the One Year War, most notably in South-East Asian and Eastern European frontlines.[1][2] For the latter, an unit belonged to 1st Armored Infantry Company was used as part of the escaping convoy from EFF's surprise raid at Zeon's Cluj-Napoca base on November 7, U.C. 0079.[2] Another unit was used by Maj. Gen. Yuri Kellerne of Zeon European Army for rallying troops in the frontlines.[5] A couple of Jeeps were also seen as part of Maj. Rolph Ronet's convoy as his troops made their way towards Odessa space port after Zeon's defeat in Operation Odessa.[6]

- According to mecha designer Kimitoshi Yamane, the Jeep's design was based on Volkswagen's Kübelwagen.[7]
