I hope you've all raring to write some melancholy, because that's what I'm going to ask of you this week. In particular, I've grown a fondness for The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows - a compendium of neologisms that capture odd, hyper-specific feelings, and one that I think is really ripe for some character-driven storytelling. For this first stab, I'm offering few that all share a common theme, ones that are tied to moments of the past and how they shape your character's present (or future), using any format you like - diary entries, correspondence, bare dialogue, or regular prose. | Random Good Article: Shinsu 'Refum |

 Shinsu 'Refum, also known as the Black Knight of Sanghelios, was a Sangheili warrior and a son of Sesa 'Refumee, one of the first "heretics" to openly oppose the Great Journey. Unlike most Sangheili, he knew and had a caring relationship with his father when he was young, though Sesa would later distance himself from Shinsu due to the urging of his clan members and the responsibilities of his military career. Shinsu was learning the arts of swordsmanship in a blademaster's keep on Sanghelios when his father turned against the Covenant and was killed by the Arbiter Thel 'Vadamee. Facing persecution from the Covenant's religious authorities, Shinsu was saved through the intervention of the blademaster he was studying under, who hid him from his would-be killers. Almost the entirety of the Refum clan was wiped out during the Great Schism and Shinsu emerged into the post-war universe believing himself to be the only survivor from his clan. |

| Fanon of the Month — April 2025: Halo: Silent Shadow |

 Halo: Silent Shadow is a First-Person Shooter spinoff of the Halo franchise developed by 343 Industries, with consultation from id Software. Taking place concurrently with the events of Halo 2, Silent Shadow follows a Silent Shadow lance known as the Cleansing Paladins. Over the course of the campaign, the player's character, the Invincible Paladin, participates on several warfronts against various factions, including the UNSC, Heretics, Sentinels, Covenant loyalists, and eventually the Flood. While initially staunch followers of the Covenant, the plot covers the Cleansing Paladins' collective response to the Great Schism and the resulting fallout. The title released on Xbox Series X/S, Windows 11, and Steam on October 15, 2022 with crossplay support for the Incursion multiplayer mode. |

 Mobile warfare, also known as "walker warfare" or—informally— "mech warfare", is the use of walking vehicles in modern warfare. While long considered a marginal and esoteric doctrine, the practice of employing walking vehicles (or "mechs") in armed conflict has seen a resurgence since the beginning of the 26th century and proliferation in the balkanized galaxy following the Human-Covenant War. While fundamentally similar to armoured warfare in its use of armored vehicles, the enhanced mobility of walkers and their stability on the varied and often difficult terrain of extrasolar worlds has resulted in altogether new approaches to warfighting. I've always felt that many areas of Halo don't have as much depth to them as they could, unlike Warhammer or Star Wars, and so I've committed myself to either developing new avenues for canonical expansion, or just writing about ideas that pop into my head.
