The Weekly — Week 351: Give Me a Little Space |
---|
It's no secret that Halo has a vast repertoire of planets. So many of our Halo stories are planetbound, 'landlocked' stories where characters have the comfort of an atmosphere. Braving the void-between only to hop between locales. The comforts and security of air and Oxygen, and gravity tethering them without the need for scifinium gravity generators or spinny bits, are all but guaranteed. So let's go off-world for a week. Write any story set in orbit around a planet or body. For the sake of clarity, things like habitats, asteroids, and ships are allowed, but your character can't set foot on something that could be considered a 'planet', 'oid' or otherwise. Bonus points given for truly unique settings; the Saturn vacation habitats that were mentioned by Buck, more 'officialised' asteroid redoubts not occupied by Insurrectionists this time, stations and orbitals where people live and work in the shadow of their homeworld, anything goes, so long as it takes place in space. 1,500 words, with leeway. |

Random Good Article: Julian-G209 |
---|
Julian-G209, also known as Codename: WHISPER, was a SPARTAN-III Commando of Gamma Company. Leaving training as one of the more capable squad leaders in the Company, Julian was forced to deal with a number of deaths early on in their deployment before his eventual reassignment to Shrike Team, where he participated in a number of clandestine operations over the next year. Following the dissolution of Shrike, Julian and a number of other Spartans were formed into a new fireteam under the direct command of ONI known as Thor, which would operate as part of the Spartan Branch instead of the Navy and participate in a number of highly dangerous operations over the next few years. |

Fanon of the Month — November 2024: VK78 patrol rifle |
---|
The VK78 patrol rifle is a "military-style" or infantry automatic, select-fire marksman rifle produced by the colonial German weapons manufacturer, Vakara GesmbH. The United Nations Space Command designated it the VK78 Commando upon entering service. Notably the designation did not change between service branches due to predominate use by Army and Air Force under Unified Ground Command (UNICOM). The weapon is also associated with names like "Vakara Karabiner" (German: "Vakara Carbine"), "Vakara Commando," and occasionally mislabelled as a "tactical rifle." Originally adopted by the Colonial Military Administration in 2495 at the height of the Insurrection, the VK78 patrol rifle later saw use with colonial units of the UNSC after the CMA's dissolvement and by many colonial governments and Insurrectionist factions after the decline. Due to its age, conversion and reassembly kits are readily available along with various after-market parts that allow the rifle to better serve a individual's needs. The VK78 is unusual amongst the UNSC standard arsenal with its traditional magazine well set forward of the trigger. The standard rifle cartridges for the VK78 is M259: 6.5×48mm, a intermediate cartridge trading mass for higher velocity compared to the Misriah Armory MA5 series in M118: 7.62×51mm NATO. |

Mythic Article of the Year: Mobile warfare by Ahalosniper |
---|
![]() Mobile warfare, also known as "walker warfare" or—informally— "mech warfare", is the use of walking vehicles in modern warfare. While long considered a marginal and esoteric doctrine, the practice of employing walking vehicles (or "mechs") in armed conflict has seen a resurgence since the beginning of the 26th century and proliferation in the balkanized galaxy following the Human-Covenant War. While fundamentally similar to armoured warfare in its use of armored vehicles, the enhanced mobility of walkers and their stability on the varied and often difficult terrain of extrasolar worlds has resulted in altogether new approaches to warfighting. These changes have since necessitated military academics to consider mobile warfare its own discipline. Read more»

Writer of the Year 2024: TheAussie1417 |

![]() Winner of the 2024 Best Vehicle, Best Event award(s). G'day! I'm TheAussie1417, and I'm a very big fan of Halo, and its lore. I've always felt that many areas of Halo don't have as much depth to them as they could, unlike Warhammer or Star Wars, and so I've committed myself to either developing new avenues for canonical expansion, or just writing about ideas that pop into my head.
