item asylum is a reference-filled randomizer fighting Roblox experience, developed by Jean's Bizarre Community. Inspired by another PvP randomizer game on Roblox with a different focus, it was initially released on September 8th, 2020. The game became especially popular on May 3rd, 2021 after a sudden spike in players caused it to go from 100 to 600 active visitors in a single day, and kept rising over the next week, peaking at over 3,000 concurrent users.
item asylum's collection of items is primarily based on pop culture, from memes to movies to video games, as well as pieces of iconic Roblox gear and references to other experiences on Roblox. This gives rise to chaotic battles where one might find players throwing heavily distorted cats at someone wielding a pair of powerful demon-killing pistols while someone else drops a faulty doorbell into the mix before promptly taunting both of them by sitting in a plastic chair. While best known for its free-for-all melees, item asylum has a variety of other gamemodes to break up the monotony.
Maps are the areas in which unbridled mayhem takes place. They are the arenas that players fight in. Maps come in varying different sizes, ranging from being too cramped or being too vast. Frequently, however, there are maps that are just right... or some lunatic will vote for hellplate again. Most maps have some form of hazard that can be leveraged to wipe out players with when you are given otherwise woefully ineffective loadouts.
NPCs are AI-controlled characters. Ranging from the "mighty" player-summoned roomba to the mundane Uncertified dummy, these simple characters create their own form of chaos wherever they go.
There are also powerful characters simply known as bosses. They possess movesets capable of wiping out players with ease. However, they are typically only encountered in the BOSS gamemode.
