| Lil Uzi Vert is an American rapper and singer. Born Symere Bysil Woods on July 31, 1995, they were raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Uzi began to rap in 2010 after hearing a classmate freestyle over an instrumental. Their moniker derives from a friend who remarked that they rap fast, like a machine gun. After the release of the project The Real Uzi (2014), Uzi signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records through the imprint, Generation Now, in 2015. They went on to have four number one albums on the Billboard 200, sold 4.5 million albums in the United States, and were nominated for four Grammys. |
