Matilda the Musical is a musical written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The show is currently running on the West End. It is based on the beloved children's novel Matilda by Roald Dahl, and has won the most Olivier Awards in history. The musical is centred around the Wormwood family: the titular character Matilda Wormwood, Mrs Wormwood, Mr Wormwood and Michael Wormwood. When Matilda starts school, she meets the lovely Miss Honey, the horrible Miss Trunchbull and befriends her classmates: Bruce, Lavender, Nigel, Amanda, Eric, Alice, Hortensia and Tommy.

- At 4ft 4in (or: 132cm) tall, Matilda Wormwood is the smallest leading lady in a musical.
- The production uses 8.320 balloons a year and 105 metres of balloon elastic.
- There are 3.780 paper aeroplanes flown into the audience each year. Each one is a written school report of one of Matilda's classmates.
- The production goes through over 100 tubs of chocolate spread each year.
- The Blackboard moves 15.5 miles (or 24.9 km) over the course of a year, at a top speed of 1.5mph (or 1.6km/h)
- Miss Honey and Matilda enjoy a real cup of tea on stage complete with milk and a biscuit during the song "My House"
- The Crunchem Hall School badge that features on the children's blazers is designed by Quentin Blake, who also illustrated the books written by Roald Dahl.
- Tim Minchin, the Australian comedian who wrote the lyrics and music for Matilda, first tried to get the rights to make Matilda the Musical just after Roald Dahl's death in 1990, but he wasn't successful until many years later.
- Matilda the Musical has won over 100 international awards, including 24 for Best Musical.
- The South Korean Production of Matilda is the very first production of the show to be entirely in a language other than English.
- Matilda is the 55th longest running show on Broadway and was in Australia for a whopping two years!
- Matilda is the longest-running show at the Cambridge Theatre in London.
- Matilda the Musical is the 15th longest-running show in the West End, having played over 4.600 performances as of September 2024.
- Matilda is featured in an episode of the podcast "Jim and Tomic's Musical Theatre Happy Hour" on December 9, 2016.
