A long time ago, there was a planet named Machina where a race of sentient machines, or Metal Cardbots, resided. One day, the planet suddenly explodes, forcing its inhabitants to live on Earth. To not attract attention, the Cardbots disguise themselves as everyday vehicles. In the present day, Jun, an elementary school kid who loves BMX, accidentally discovers the Metal Breath, a wrist gadget that allows him to capture and power up the Cardbots with different abilities.[5]

The series first premiered on 대교어린이TV (Daekyo Kids TV) on March 29, 2023 and KBS1 on March 30, 2023. The first season is available for free on the official Metal Cardbot TV YouTube channel, only in Korean.

At the time of writing, the first season of Metal Cardbot has been dubbed in a variety of languages. The Chinese dub, produced by Zhan Gao Culture & Entertainment Co, Ltd. (展高文化娱乐) and with toys produced by JUMPGO, premiered on November 3, 2023. A dual English and Chinese dub premiered on Okto on 5 on August 31, 2024[6]. While the Chinese dub is identical, it is unclear what company was contracted to make the English dub. It is only available for viewing on MeWatch with a Singaporean VPN. A Japanese dub is also planned[4].

Back in Mowtown, June's friend Crest brings her a tablet from the Porcaca Ruins. When Jun touches the tablet, the Metal Breath reacts, setting off a whole new chain of events.[7]

SAMG Entertainment announced the production of Seasons 2 and 3 on July 11, 2023, citing its growing popularity and toy revenue compared to competing series[8]. The name "Metal Cardbot S" was revealed on July 16, 2024[9], with the first episode premiering on EBS1 on August 26, 2024[10].

A Chinese dub, titled 炫卡斗士2 (Metal Cardbot 2), premiered on November 29, 2024. Despite the season's planned episode count of 26, only 13 episodes have been filed in permits with the Chinese National Radio and Television Administration, and no follow-up permits have been made since then[11].

Four young protagonists, Xiaojun, Anlan, Daiou, and Ke Xingyu, receive a mysterious invitation letter to fight alongside the Cardbots in the Xuanka competition, working together to resolve the energy crisis on Earth.[12]

Metal Cardbot: Beast Energy (CN: 炫卡斗士之猛兽能量) is a live-action spinoff series created by Beijing Radio and BTV Kaku Kids Channel (卡酷少儿卫视) and premiered on September 20, 2024.[13] The creators of the original series had little say in its production, and the show takes a completely different direction in its plot and characters.
