Melissa Arnette Elliott (born July 1, 1971) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. She embarked on her music career as a member of R&B girl group Sista in the early-mid 1990s and later became a member of the Swing Mob collective along with childhood friend and longtime collaborator Timbaland. She then worked on projects for American R&B acts such as Aaliyah, 702, Total, and SWV, before launchig her solo career in 1997 with her debut album Supa Dupa Fly and starting her reign as one of the most influental artists ever.

Missy Elliott is one of the highest paid female rappers to this day. Her innovative artistry and undeniable gifted talent as a rapper, singer and producer definitely has left a footprint and levitated the music industry. Her creative and critically acclaimed music videos are still referenced and considered a template for inventive and outstanding music videos.
