Cuttlefish are aquatic creatures native to Alternia. They have bullet-shaped bodies, with heads and short tentacles but no visible limbs. Cuttlefish are very colorful creatures and are known to occur in a variety of shades, such as red, orange, yellow, lime, green, light blue, dark blue, purple, violet, and magenta.
Feferi Peixes is fond of cuttlefish, which she considers funny and lovable, and has captured thousands of them to cull. As Feferi wishes to redefine "culling" to mean looking after the weak and infirm, these cuttlefish live essentially as pets. However, they have only a dubious need of care and often simply swim out through the bars of their cages.
A cuttlefish is encountered in Alterniabound, where it can be found in a treasure chest Vriska's rooms. After being examined, the cuttlefish is left in a puddle of water on the floor of the room, where it can be seen breathing.

- Real-life cuttlefish are common on Earth. However, no cuttlefish have been depicted on Earth in the comic.
- The name "Feferi" is derived from Metasepia pfefferi, a species of cuttlefish in real life.
- While this is not commented on in the comic, the colors of the cuttlefish in Feferi's room include all of the colors of the Hemospectrum, excepting only Karkat and the Sufferer's mutant candy-red blood.
