NiziU (Japanese: ニジュー) is a 9 member Japanese girl-group formed from an audition program by Sony Music Japan and JYP Entertainment. The program, Nizi Project, started in the summer 2019 with auditions in 8 cities throughout Japan, Hawaii and Los Angeles. Out of 10,000 contestants, these 9 girls, Mako, Riku, Rima, Rio, Maya, Miihi, Mayuka, Ayaka, and Nina, won their debut with Sony Music/JYP having gone through tough trainings and missions in Tokyo and Seoul. Their pre-debut mini album "Make you happy" was released on June 30th, 2020. While training with JYP makes them the sister group to TWICE and ITZY. NiziU finally made their debut on December 2, 2020 with their single "Step and a step".
