Rina Sawayama was born on August 16, 1990 in Niigata, Japan and lived there until her family decided to move to London, England when she was five. Her relationship with music comes from her university times when she was in a hip-hop group called Lazy Lion, while she was studying politics, psychology, and sociology at Cambridge University and decided to pursue the music and modelling industry. She started her solo career in 2013 with the release of her debut single "Sleeping In Waking", which was available as a vinyl with the b-side "Who?". |

Akira Shimazu is a fictional character portrayed by Rina Sawayama for the neo-noir media franchise John Wick. She appeared for the first time in John Wick: Chapter 4, the four installment of the franchise which premiered on 6 March 2023. Akira is the daughter of Shimazu Koji, and concierge of the Continental in Osaka. On casting Sawayama, director Chad Stahelski said he was "so glad to have [her] on board to make her feature film debut" in John Wick: Chapter 4. "She's an incredible talent who'll bring so much to the film." |

"Phantom" was released on 25 August 2022 as the fourth single off Hold the Girl (2022).Rina wrote the song with Clarence Clarity and Lauren Aquilina, and features a guitar solo written by Vic Jamieson. Musically, it is a pop-rock ballad with lyrics about "losing yourself and wanting that person back because you don't like the person that you are now".
