It originally ran from September 18, 1993, to November 24, 1996, totaling four seasons and 52 episodes.
The series follows the surreal, parodic adventures of an anthropomorphic wallaby named Rocko, and his life in the city of O-Town. Originally from Australia, the show explores his American life as well as the lives of his friends and neighbors: Rocko's faithful dog, Spunky, the gluttonous steer Heffer Wolfe, the neurotic turtle Filburt Turtle, his grouchy neighbor Ed Bighead and his friendly and sensible wife Bev Bighead. The show is laden with adult humor, including double ententes, innuendos, and satirical social commentary.
A revival special, Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, was released on Netflix on August 9, 2019.Episode transcripts need to be fixed

- In the pilot, Rocko was yellow, but the color was eventually changed when a toy company interested in the show requested it because they "already had a very popular yellow character." The company ultimately did not produce any merchandise for the show, leaving the color change useless.
- Rocko's surname, "Rama", is never mentioned in the series.
- The real scoutmaster from Camp Kidney in Camp Lazlo is a steer that resembles Heffer, also voiced by Tom Kenny.
- The Bigheads were based on mean neighbors that Joe Murray had when he was a kid.
- Static Cling was originally intended to premiere on Nickelodeon in 2018.
- "Trash-O-Madness" is the original pilot episode of the series, and was released on MTV in 1992.
- Chokey Chicken was renamed "Chewy Chicken" in the fourth season due to the original name referring to masturbation. The restaurant would use the "Chokey Chicken" name again in Static Cling.
