The All Terrain MegaCaliber Six (AT-M6),[1] also known as the Gorilla Walker[3] or First Order Heavy Assault Walker,[4] was a mobile heavy artillery walker used by the First Order during their war with the Resistance.[5] As the biggest walker in the First Order's arsenal, the AT-M6 was much larger than the All Terrain Armored Transport used by the Galactic Empire,[3] and was operated by specialist First Order Walker Drivers, who were responsible for the use of the machine's most prominent feature, a single MegaCaliber Six turbolaser cannon mounted to its back[1] for which the walker was named.[6]
Characteristics

The AT-M6 was a heavily armored walker utilized by the First Order military during their war against the Resistance. Its design was half siege walker and half psychological weapon, with its massive height, imposing arms, and terrifying noises capable of breaking whole armies before its weapons came into range. The AT-M6 was essentially a siege platform, with the walker's entire frame based around accommodating the MegaCaliber Six turbolaser cannon, a heavy turbolaser which could punch through planetary shields to end sieges with one swift strike. First Order researchers managed to install the giant cannon by reinforcing the front legs, giving the walker stability and the look of a giant simian predator. To power its main weapon the walker carried a dedicated power generator as well as a number of auxiliary fuel cells that were mounted on the walker's back behind the cannon compartment to reduce the recharge time between shots.[2]
The AT-M6 was covered in state of the art Ultra-dense matrixed composite armor and powered by a fusion reactor. Alongside the MegaCaliber cannon, it was also equipped with two forward-mounted fire-linked heavy laser cannons, two cheek-mounted anti-ship medium laser cannons,[1] and two sets of serrated cable cutters in the front legs to deter attempts at toppling the top-heavy walker. The walker also carried a targeting computer which analyzed the input from two sets of cockpit-mounted targeting sensor banks to deliver precise shots.[2]
History
In 34 ABY,[7] they were deployed to the planet Vardos to put down their former allies after Gleb's death.[8]
Shortly after the battle on Vardos,[7] and shortly after the death of Supreme Leader Snoke and the ascension of Kylo Ren as leader of the First Order, a number of these walkers led the charge[9] in a Veers Formation[5] against the Resistance base on the planet Crait, along with a pair of First Order All Terrain Armored Transports and Ren's Upsilon-class command shuttle, with numerous TIE/fo space superiority fighters and TIE/sf space superiority fighters providing air support.[9]
After the majority of Resistance speeders and ground troops were destroyed and the remainder forced to withdraw to the heavily armored confines of the base proper, the AT-M6s participated in the bombardment of the Force projection of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, who had come to confront Ren, his fallen apprentice. However, the laser cannons of the walkers had no effect on the illusion.[9]
Behind the scenes

The All Terrain MegaCaliber Six was first officially revealed on The Star Wars Show on August 23, 2017.[10] It was created for the 2017 film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.[9] Director Rian Johnson noted he aimed to have the AT-M6 resemble a gorilla.[11]
A scale model of the All Terrain MegaCaliber Six, alongside several other models and props, was placed on display in the Star Wars Launch Bay attraction during the Galactic Nights event on December 16, 2017, as part of the promotion for the then-recently released movie The Last Jedi.[12]
