Clem Andor was a male human mechanic and salvager from the planet Ferrix.^[1] Prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars,^[6] he accompanied his wife Maarva on the planet Kenari, where the pair found and adopted Cassian Jeron Andor.^[4]

Biography

Early life

Clem Andor was a human male who was born^[5] around 81 BBY^[2] and hailed from the planet Ferrix^[1] which was located in the Free Trade sector.^[7] At some point, Clem married Maarva, and the two worked as scavengers, traversing the galaxy to bring back unclaimed technology to their homeworld.^[1]

Scavenging on Kenari

By 24 BBY,^[8] Clem and his wife Maarva embarked on a mission to salvage wrecked technology and equipment from a crashed Republic starship on the planet of Kenari. Amongst the wreckage, Clem and Maarva found Cassian, a young Kenari boy, that had been exploring the wreckage. Though Clem admired the boy's spirit, he was anxious to leave as a separate Republic vessel was approaching. In order to save him, Maarva stunned Cassian and removed him from the wreckage.^[4]

Cassian's father

Clem, Maarva, and Cassian were living in a household in a small town on the planet of Ferrix. Clem showed his adopted son Cassian how to clean a small type of engine part using an acid bath. He taught the boy the value of looking past the rust of old parts to see the possibilities beneath.^[5]

Protests on Ferrix

In 19 BBY, within the first year of the Galactic Empire's rule,^[3] Clem and Cassian were present in the town's square when a large contingent of clone stormtroopers and their officer were marching through. The town's people, upset with the newly-fledged Empire's presence, begun a protest, pelting stones at the passing troopers and demanded for the return of the former Republic and for Ferrix's liberation. Clem unsuccessfully attempted to calm the protestors, citing that they were making the situation worse. In response, the Imperial officer ordered his troopers to raise their weapons against the town's populace. Accused of having taken part in the protest, Clem was subsequently hanged in the town's square at Rix Road.^[9]

Later, with his father's corpse still hanging, Cassian entered the town's square with a baton and charged a group of clone stormtroopers intending to kill them, but was apprehended and arrested.^[9]

At some point later, Clem's body was cremated,^[5] and his ashes mixed with mortar and dust to form his funerary stone,^[10] on which was inscribed his name, date of birth, and date of death. His brick was placed in a wall on a street of the Gavalox Communications center.^[5]

Legacy

After the Ambush on Ferrix, Cassian chose his adoptive father's name as a false identity when undergoing a mission for Luthen Rael.^[11] Later, when he returned to Ferrix for his mother's funeral after escaping the prison on Narkina 5, he visited Clem's funerary stone and reminisced of their time together.^[5]

Equipment

Around the time of the Republic Era, Clem wielded^[4] an MW-20 Bryar pistol,^[12] which was wielded by his adopted son years later. Additionally, he utilized a breath mask while scavenging on Kenari. He co-piloted the hauler he and Maarva owned.^[4]

Behind the scenes

Clem Andor first appeared in "Reckoning," the third episode of the television series Andor, portrayed by Gary Beadle.^[4] The 2023 Topps Star Wars card set mistakenly lists his homeworlds as Kenari and Aldhani,^[13] even though the Databank previously established it as Ferrix.^[1]

If the Coruscant reckoning calendar and 'ABY-BBY' dating system are one-to-one, then the 7959 C.R.C. death dating found on Andor's funerary stone narrows his death date down to 18 BBY.^[14] However, the reference book Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide later established Andor's death to occur in 19 BBY through its dating of his son's arrest.^[3] As the C.R.C and BBY calendars would have different start dates,^[15] this article assumes this is not a contradiction, but simply a difference between two calendars.
