- "Tell me, Commander, how would you feel if I were to tell you that most Chiss I've met have been arrogant and condescending."
- ―Arien Yage
Commander Hess'irolia'nuruodo, also known by her core name Irolia, was a Chiss female officer who served in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet of the Chiss Ascendancy.
Biography
- "As an officer of the Expansionary Defense Force, I believe it is my duty to ensure the safety and security of the Chiss realm. That directive, as you are well aware, supersedes all others."
- ―Commander Irolia
In 28 ABY,[2] Irolia was in command of a Chiss corvette that intercepted the Jade Shadow during its mission to the Unknown Regions, and escorted it to Csilla. To the eyes of Luke Skywalker, she seemed no older than his niece Jaina, then twenty years old—she may even have been younger.[1]
Equipment
Irolia claimed to be an officer of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force,[1] but instead of the predominantly black jumpsuits of most CEDF officers,[3] she wore a burgundy-and-black uniform,[1] a color scheme previously only seen among the Chiss warriors from Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx.[4] Her uniform bore an insignia of the Chiss Ascendancy.[1] Also, her ship was escorted by Nssis-class Clawcraft, hybrid TIE-series starfighters that had previously only been seen in combat with House Phalanx forces.
Behind the scenes
Hess'irolia'nuruodo first appeared in the 2003 novel The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic II: Refugee, the second book in The New Jedi Order's Force Heretic trilogy, written by Sean Williams and Shane Dix. Although Commander Hess'irolia'nuruodo was described wearing a burgundy-and-black uniform in Force Heretic II: Refugee,[1] a color scheme previously only seen among the Chiss warriors from Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx,[4] her depiction in the The Essential Reader's Companion has her wear a Defense Fleet uniform with red piping along her arms that represented the Red Flame ideal.[2]
