R2-T0 was an R2-series astromech droid owned by the Toydarian junk dealer Watto, who made it available for sale from his junk shop in the spaceport of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine. The Toydarian also rented the droid to mechanics around the port, and in 32 BBY, R2-T0 worked with the welding droid WEL-1708 in the streets of Mos Espa.
Biography
R2-T0[3] was an R2-series astromech droid[2] owned by the Toydarian Watto,[3] a junk dealer who ran a shop in Mos Espa spaceport on the planet Tatooine.[4] The astromech droid was among those available for sale in the shop,[5] and was also rented out to mechanics around Mos Espa by Watto.[3]
In 32 BBY,[6] R2-T0 worked with the[7] welding droid WEL-1708 on a piece of machinery in the streets of Mos Espa. Both droids were using their manipulators to hold up a metal rod against the machinery[4] when Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Padmé Amidala, and the Gungan Jar Jar Binks passed by them.[7]
Characteristics
R2-T0 stood 0.96 meters (3 feet, 2 inches) tall[1] and had gray and green plating and a black sensor. The droid was equipped with a small lamp attached to the top of its dome.[3] Like all R-series droids, it was manufactured by Industrial Automaton.[1]
Behind the scenes

R2-T0 appeared in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The droid was not identified in the film,[7] but was given a name when Hasbro released a figure of it packaged with Watto as part of the Star Wars: Droid Factory line in the Star Wars: The Legacy Collection series of figures in 2008.[5]
