Slovar

"I did open this ancient place, yes. But I had no idea the Slovars were using it as a nest. They caught me off guard. Bound me here and left me to die."
―Minakatso[1]

Slovar were a type of large, furry predator with six limbs. During the Republic Era, a group nested in an abandoned temple of the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door on the planet Cerosha. After the brotherhood member Minakatso unsealed the cave and disturbed them, the slovar began snatching children from the city of Műch, where residents began calling the creatures the snatcher.

After the Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn saved the child Peroka from a slovar, the pair began investigating the creatures and tracked one back to the temple. There, they found Minakatso and freed him from bindings, waking the Slovar Queen. Minakatso and Jinn then fought four of the creatures and slew the queen before sealing the temple. Jinn later told his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, about his encounter with slovar on Cerosha.

Biology and appearance

"I saw it. Black with white streaks. It seemed to come out of nowhere. One second my boy was here, the next it had carred him off, screaming, into the trees. There was nothing I could do. Nothing at all."

The slovar were a type of large, predatory creature with bodies covered in fur that could be brown, gray, black, or black with white streaks. They had six limbs, two large arms ending in five-clawed digits, two small arms protruding from their chest with only three clawed digits, and then two large legs with five-clawed feet. A slovar's head consisted of a maw of sharp teeth with a pink tongue, two pointed, furry ears, a black snout, and multiple pairs of eyes. In daylight these appeared white, but in darkness they shone red. Slovar could have two, four, or five pairs of eyes.[1]

Behavior

"But what has this place got to do with the snatchers?"
"They're using it as a nest. Something must have distrubed them recently."
―Peroka and Qui-Gon Jinn[1]

Slovar were capable of climbing buildings and trees and could leap between them when traveling. They created nests in cave-like enviroments where they could bind foes and lived in social groups that included a queen. When hunting, they targeted children and dragged their prey away swiftly.[1]

History

A nest disrupted

"What was that thing?"
"We call it the snatcher. I don't know its real name."
"The snatcher? Let me guess—people have been going missing around here recently."
"How did you know that?"
"Call it Jedi intuition."

During the reign of the Galactic Republic, a group of Slovar nested in an abandoned temple of the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door on the planet Cerosha, leaving bones strewn around the space. The temple was located in a cave sealed with a large boulder until Minakatso, a member of the brotherhood, moved the bold aside in order to search the temple for a scroll created by the group's founder, Sarasti Thel. Disturbed by Minakatso's arrival, they caught the new arrival off guard and bound him against a pillar before leaving him to die.[1]

The Solvar began hunting children in the city of Műch, taking at least two young boys, carrying one of screaming into the woods in front of a parent. The city's residents began calling the slovar the "snatcher," not realising there was more than one, and some came to believe that they only took naughty children. A little more than a week after the slovar attacks began, one attempted to snatch the human child Peroka in the forested outskirts of the city. The Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn heard the commotion from nearby and came to Peroka's defense with his lightsaber. The slovar swiped at the Jedi and knocked him to the ground, but the Jedi then used the Force to push it back into a wall. The creature then fled up a nearby tree.[1]

Hunting the child snatchers

"Skreeeeek"
"We've woken the Slovar Queen. This isn't good. Not at all."
―The Slovar Queen and Minakatso[1]

After Peroka told Jinn what was known about the "snatchers," he realised there was likely multiple and the pair began questioning locals and examining footprints to try and find where they had come from. Once ready to confront the creatures, Jinn told Peroka to remain in the city where it was safe. The Jedi then found a slovar as it leapt from a city rooftop into a tree and followed it through the forest back to the creatures' nest at the temple. At the temple entrance, Jinn realised Peroka had followed him and told the child to stay close as they entered the temple.[1]

Inside they discovered Minakatso tied to the pillar and Jinn freed him, asking if the slovar had snatched him from the city. Minakatso explained that he had come to the cave of his own accord but not known the slovar would be inside. A rumbling them alerted the trio to the arrival of four slovar, including the Slovar Queen, who had been woken up by the Jedi's arrival. While Peroka hid, Jinn and Minakatso fought the creatures together, although one knocked Minakatso to the ground. The queen then targeted Perako, but Minakatso saved the child by hurling a electrostaff into the beast's head.[1]

Jinn then threw two of the slovar through the air with the Force and Minakatso told the Jedi to run at the queen, promising to use the Force to lift him higher when he attacked. With the other Force-user's assistance, Jinn then leapt over the queen and slashed its head with his lightsaber, killing it. With the fighting over, Minakatso departed and Jinn sealed the cave with the boulder once more. years later, Jinn told his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi about his encounter with Minakatso and the slovar while the pair were investigating the Tomb of Sarasti Thel.[1]
