The Handmaid's Tale tells the story of a nation facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate. Gilead is ruled by a twisted Christian fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values'. As one of the few remaining fertile women, June is a Handmaid in Commander Fred Waterford's household. She is one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world.

In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

The television series just concluded its fifth season. Read more about the fifth season here... A sixth season has been ordered.

LGBTQ+ people in Gilead's theocracy are persecuted as "gender traitors", the regime treats them just like political "traitors". Unlike other legal offenses like "adultery" or "infidelity", there is no mitigation for those who repent their "deeds". Our article for the Pride Month 2023
