Ballad of songbirds

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prequel book to The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

With a young Coriolanus Snow as its protagonist, the novel is set in the world of Panem 64 years before the events of the original trilogy, on the morning of the reaping of the 10th Hunger Games.

The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days, provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.

Music is prominent in the prequel novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, in which the character Lucy Gray Baird is a member of a performing group known as the Covey. She performs a number of songs throughout the novel.
