Main Characters
Ares: The vagrant warrior who was saved and taught the ways of the sword by the retired Master Swordsman of the Kingdom of Chronos, Kiron. Kiron is ruthlessly killed by the Red-Eyed Swordsman and Ares vowed to avenge his late master at all cost.
Mikael: The heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Isiris. He is bound by blood and birthright to avenge his ancestors from the humiliation they had received at the hands of the Kingdom of Chronos.
Baroona: The former champion gladiator of the Kingdom of Daraak, who escaped from slavery. After his escape, he makes friends and for the first time is not fighting just to save his life, but chooses to save and support the close friends he had made.
Plot
Vagrant Soldier Ares is a Korean manhwa written and drawn by Ryu Kum-chel. The story centers on the young swordsman Ares and takes place in a world similar to Ancient Rome. This manhwa is noted for its fluid action sequences and subtle anachronism.
Vagrant Soldier Ares is a war epic which centers around three Temple Mercenaries, who are in their late teens, each coming from different backgrounds and becoming unlikely friends. Due to the circumstances of life and each of their dark paths leading them to cross paths with one another, their lives would never be the same due to the trials of friendship, sacrifice, and betrayal.
Real World Similarities
The world of Ares is similar to Ancient Rome and shares important names with that history. The protagonists belong to or ally with the central country of Chronos. Daraak and the Radnik Alliance flank Chronos' western border, Isiris flanks its southern border, Silonica flanks its eastern border, and the island nation of Minos is off its northern coast.
