WELCOME
Welcome to the Web Fiction Wiki, a potential encyclopedic resource for documenting any online fiction book (and if you're written one, you can also add a page for it on this wiki)! Founded on November 6, 2020.
On this wiki, the rules for creating a page are simple: you give out some basic information about the web book, a synopsis, the main characters, volumes, chapters, and external links for where the story is available and if there is a standalone wiki about it for more information.
Web fiction comes in 5 categories:
- Web novels: A novel published online. All web novels are allowed, as long as they either have at least 5,000 words or 10,000 views.
- Webserials: A long, original web novel, written in sequences. If you have published a webserial, you're allowed to add a page for it, regardless of its length or popularity.
- Fan fiction: Online fiction based on pop culture. In this wiki, fan fiction isn't allowed. They are allowed in fanon wikis of subjects. However, if the fan fiction is an original story with original characters and settings based on something, it is allowed in this wiki.
- Interactive novel: A type of web novel which tries to give readers an interactive experience. It offers a unique way to read fiction by choosing a page, a character, or a direction. All of these novels are allowed, as long as they either have at least 5,000 words or 10,000 views.
- Webcomic: Comics that are published online. Any original webcomic is allowed as long as it has at least 2 issues or is successful.
WHAT IS WEB FICTION?
Web fiction is written works of literature available primarily or solely on the Internet. A common type of web fiction is the web serial. The term comes from old serial stories that were once published regularly in newspapers and magazines.
Unlike most modern books, a work of web fiction is often not published as a whole. Instead, it is released on the Internet in installments or chapters as they are finished, although published compilations and anthologies are not unknown. The web serial form dominates in the category of fan fiction, as writing a serial takes less specialized software and often less time than an ebook.
Web fiction has become hugely popular in China, with revenues topping US$2.5 billion.
