Channels & Bulletin Board

The apps (called Channels) had special innovative uses during it's time, such as having an interactive weather and news app, and also a web browser on a television. The digital store allowed for users to find even more channels, participating in avatar-designing contests, voting anonymously in worldwide polls, engage in an online voice chat, browsing a product content hub, and at one point in Japan you could order food, photos, and online movies. Users also have access to a "Message Board", a digital bulletin board that can be used to create personal notes, look at a calendar, and send messages to friends. Most of these services were ran under the WiiConnect24 service.

Games

There is Wii-disc games, GameCube games, digital-exclusive games, and even digital-exclusive emulated titles. Depending on how recent the model is determines what isn't available for it, for example no GameCube games or no digital-exclusive formats. Game developers were given options to utilize the Wii's innovative motion controllers and wireless connectivity for online game functions.

After the Wii's time

Discontinuation starting in 2013 and fully shutdown in 2019, Wii has still been relevant because of the console's target audience during a time where consoles were meant for a "hardcore audience". The console even had a successor named after it. Since then, people have used custom modifications to patch games, revive online services, customize their system menu, preserve games, and much more contributions for the 2006 console.
