The Wizardry Franchise was created in 1981 by the company Sir-Tech, creating what is widely considered the first 'real' role-playing games for computers and consoles: Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. Although the series seems to have died off with Wizardry 8, the recent surprise re-release of the Proving Grounds gives hope!
