8D8, also spelled Atedeate, was an 8D smelter droid manufactured by the Verpine Roche Hive Mechanical Apparatus Design and Construction Activity for Those Who Need the Hive's Machines.
Biography
8D8 was an 8D Smelter droid manufactured by Roche Hive Mechanical Apparatus Design and Construction Activity for Those Who Need the Hive's Machines.[1] Originally a starship maintenance[4] and heavy-labor industrial droid,[5] 8D8 was sold to[4] and enslaved[6] by the Hutt crime lord[7] Jabba Desilijic Tiure.[4] While in Jabba's employ, the smelter droid was lobotomized, reprogrammed and used to torture both droids and organics.[2] 8D8 worked at Cyborg Operations within Jabba's Palace[6] on the Outer Rim planet Tatooine[8] and was under the command[6] of the overseer droid EV-9D9, whom he secretly hated.[2]
Around 4 ABY, during the time that Rebels came to rescue Han Solo from Jabba, 8D8 was following EV-9D9's order by torturing a GNK power droid with a mechanical smelting device that featured a hot glowing iron.
Characteristics
8D8 was sympathetic to the droids and aliens he was forced to torture.[4]
