- "Don't miss a chance to look into the library—the moff has a collection of actual old books. Don't see that every day."
- ―Sind Reloran

Books were written works bounded together in print. In the Galactic Empire they were rare, as most preferred other means of storage, such as data-tapes or flimsiplast. Agent Kallus was surprised to observe a shelf of books when he visited the office of Captain Zataire on the Lawbringer.[2] Beru Whitesun Lars read to her nephew, Luke Skywalker, from storybooks.[3] During the Galactic Civil War, the Alliance to Restore the Republic adhered to the White Book, a field guide detailing procedures and regulations set by Alliance High Command.[4] The Sacred Jedi texts were a collection of Jedi books present on Ahch-To in 34 ABY.[5]
Behind the scenes
- "Shelved along the wall, and sorted by topic and author, were book—not data-tapes or flimsiplast replicas, but collector's hard copies, ink printed on paper."
- ―Agent Kallus observing the bookshelves of Captain Zataire
The concept of printed books being scarce in the world of Star Wars originated in the Expanded Universe in titles such as The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic II: Refugee. Though these titles are now considered part of Star Wars Legends and not canon, the idea of printed books being scarce remains in the new canon continuity.
