In the Mandalorian culture, families were referred to as clans. Clans often presided over their own fiefdoms and were usually vassals of a "house," or political faction.[2] For example, members of Clan Wren, who ruled the planet Krownest, were allied with House Vizsla.[1] Other clans included Clan Awaud,[3] Clan Eldar, Clan Kryze, Clan Rook,[4] Clan Saxon,[5] and Clan Vizsla.[6] The Tribe was a clan,[7] with Clan Mudhorn growing out of it.[8] Members of the Mandalorian Guard were recruited from every clan.[9]

Behind the scenes

The structure of Mandalorian society was first explicitly described by Dave Filoni, former supervising director of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series and executive producer on the following series Star Wars Rebels. Following the release of the Rebels episode "The Protector of Concord Dawn," Filoni explained that the Mandalorian society is pyramidal: it has a ruler, big factions known as houses, and familial units (clans) allied with said houses.
