The slaving collar was designed to keep prisoners and slaves in line. The collar consisted of a neck brace that was often linked to chains or cables. It sometimes featured shock panels to shock an unruly captive, in which case it was referred to as a shock collar. Some types of slave collars would also be designed to explode if one attempted to improperly remove it, or be detonated by transmiter if the slave attempted to escape.

Description

Slaving collars generally consisted of adjustable braces that were affixed around the neck, arms, or legs. Multiple collars could be linked together using chains or conductive cables. Most slaving collars were constructed of reinforced durasteel, and some models incorporated shock panels into them which were capable of delivering electrical shock charges to the wearer. The collars could be remotely activated by a shock controller.^[1]

Because slaving collars were illegal in most star systems, they could not be purchased legally. They were either sold on the black market or built in back-alley workshops.^[1]

History

During the Cold War, the Sith Empire used shock collars to control prisoners and slaves prone to disobedience, including Vette. Certain Republic prisons such as Belsavis also make use of shock collars on their prisoners.

During the Clone Wars, the Secret Service of the New Mandalorian faction used this collar to torture prisoners.

The Zygerrians used them to keep slaves under control.^[2]

At the time of the Galactic Civil War, captured Wookiees were usually forced into chain groups with a slaving collar around their necks by Trandoshan slavers. Usually the lowest ranking member of the slaver patrol had to place these collars around the Wookiees' necks — a very dangerous job.^[3]

In 4 ABY, Princess Leia Organa endured the humiliation of the slave collar while being held captive by Jabba the Hutt. Jaina Solo, Leia's daughter, was also forced to wear one for a short time during the Yuuzhan Vong War.
