- "What was first just a dream has become a frightening reality for those who may oppose us."
- ―Grand Admiral Thrawn
Thrawn's forces[8] were initially the gathered members and equipment of a small Imperial Remnant commanded by the Chiss warlord Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn" during the New Republic Era. Thrawn commanded his forces from his flagship, the Chimaera, during their exile in a far galaxy. The ground forces consisted of[1] a legion of[3] Night Troopers under Captain of the Guard Enoch. As a fleet, the Chiss commander possessed the damaged ISD Chimaera and its complement of TIE fighters and LAAT/le patrol gunships. Admiral Thrawn's forces were allied with the Great Mothers, who also sought to escape from exile on Peridea.[1] Around 9 ABY,[6] upon their arrival to deliver Thrawn and the Great Mothers from exile, the forces of his old ally Nightsister survivor Lady Morgan Elsbeth became part of his.[4]
Upon Thrawn's return to the galaxy, his forces encompassed the military assets he used in his war with the New Republic. Ultimately the New Republic won it like they did with the Galactic Civil War, defeating the Imperial Remnant in the process.[8]
Behind the scenes
Thrawn's forces first appeared in "Part Six: Far, Far Away"[1] and were identified as such by an art print by artist Joe Hogan.[9] The capitalization of "forces," however, was not clarified until the release of Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire.[8]
